Christmas presents for daughter's boyfriend and family?

I would like to get a Christmas present for my college aged daughter's boyfriend. They have been dating for 9 months now and seem pretty serious. They won't be together over the holidays(our families are from different states). How should I get the present to him, and any suggestions about what to get him? Also, I would like to send his parents a little something as well. I was thinking about just sending a card and a nice ornament. Should I send more? something the whole family can enjoy? I don't want to overspend, but I don't want to seem cheap either.....
