At an early stage you should have asked for the contact details of your landlord. The agent has to provide this on demand by law. Then you could have bent the ear of the landlord direct as agents are generally disinterested and unhelpful. You also could have asked the local authority to intervene as the law says you must have adequate heat and hot water, but it's too late now. You may ask the landlord for compensation and if he is decent you may receive some, but don't hold your breath.
