How do I simply modify text in Dreamweaver CS5?

I searched for this issue and have found no easy solution. Working in dreamweaver CS5, I want to modify text, but every time I try and change the size or make it bold, underlined, etc, a CSS window pops up asking me to create a code. This is driving me insane - the most simple, most used task now wants me to create codes? I watched some video tutorials how to work on this and have found a few loop-holes to eventually increase font sizes, but this is driving me insane and I am wasting too much time on something so stupid. Please let me know if you know a tutorial site that simply explains how to simply change font size without requiring all this added, wasteful windows, etc.
