Shapening groves with knife !! ?

If i sharpen my SW groves with a kitchen knife , will it help the spin rates or decrese them . i have tryed it before with vaired succses . Btw i do clean my clubs after every shot , and use PRO V1'S !! :D. an also is it legal ?
